Visiting a Student at Burke Mountain Academy, St. Johnsbury Academy, or VTSU Lyndon? Here's Where to Stay

Minutes from BMA, St. J Academy & VTSU Lyndon — family suites, sunset dinners, extended stays

Heaven's Bench overlooking Burke Mountain at The Wildflower Inn, Lyndonville VT

The Wildflower Inn is minutes from all three — Burke Mountain Academy, St. Johnsbury Academy, and Vermont State University's Lyndon campus all sit within a short drive of our Darling Hill Road property in Lyndonville, Vermont. Whether you're in town for a Saturday visit, a graduation weekend, or a month of ski season, here's what's nearby and what's coming up on each school's calendar.

Plan-ahead note: September 25–28, 2026 is a busy stretch in this corner of Vermont — Vermont State University's Lyndon Homecoming & Family Weekend (Sept 25–27), Burke Mountain Academy's Family Weekend (Sept 26–28), and the Burke Chamber of Commerce's Fall Foliage Festival all land the same weekend. If you're visiting for any of these, book early.

Burke Mountain Academy

Burke Mountain Academy, at 60 Alpine Lane in East Burke, is a boarding ski-racing academy for grades 8–12, set right at the base of Burke Mountain — 9 minutes (4.3 miles) from The Wildflower Inn. Family Weekend 2026 runs Friday through Sunday, September 26–28, with classroom visits, athletic events, and a parent reception. BMA is a boarding school — most students live on campus year-round, and families often make the trip more than once a season, especially through the winter to watch training and races.

If you're looking for a stay with some character to it, that's us: a country inn on 300 acres along Darling Hill Road, where no two rooms are quite alike, the evenings are quiet, and dinner comes with a sunset view off the back deck. If you're the kind of BMA family that comes up for a week — or, as plenty do, a month at a time during ski season — ask us about extended-stay rates: 15% off stays of 5–14 nights, 20% off 15–30 nights, with full kitchens in our suites and property-wide WiFi if you're working remotely while you're here.

St. Johnsbury Academy

St. Johnsbury Academy, at 1000 Main Street in St. Johnsbury, is an independent boarding-and-day school for grades 9–12 plus a postgraduate year — about 20 minutes (13 miles) from The Wildflower Inn. It's a bigger campus and a bigger calendar than BMA's: an 8th Grade Admissions Open House on November 5, 2026, Thanksgiving break November 25–27, winter break February 19–March 2, 2027, spring break April 17–25, 2027, and graduation on June 7, 2027. The Wildflower Inn is already listed on SJA's own recommended accommodations page for families visiting campus.

Vermont State University, Lyndon Campus

Vermont State University's Lyndon campus (formerly Lyndon State College) sits at 1001 College Rd — the same town as The Wildflower Inn, an 11-minute (4.9-mile) drive away. It's a 195-acre campus with six residence halls, and its Homecoming & Family Weekend lands September 25–27, 2026. Commencement is typically mid-May; the 2026 ceremony was held Sunday, May 17.

A Different Kind of Stay

Some visits call for something other than a standard hotel room. The Wildflower is a country inn spread across 300 acres of Darling Hill — rooms and suites with their own character, most with a door straight to the outdoors, and enough space between you and everything else that a school visit doubles as an actual getaway. Rooms run from cozy queens for a solo visit to suites that sleep up to 10, so whether it's one parent driving up for a Saturday or the whole family in for graduation weekend, there's a room that fits. Dog-friendly rooms are available if the family dog is coming along, and every room has high-speed WiFi, which matters if you're staying longer than a weekend and still working.

And then there's dinner. Our restaurant is open 365 days a year for breakfast and dinner, and the back deck faces west — a sunset dinner here is the kind of thing families end up planning the next visit around. It's as good on a random Tuesday drop-off as on a big weekend, and you don't have to be staying with us to eat with us.
