48 Hours at The Wildflower Inn

Fall in the Northeast Kingdom is nothing short of magic—and there’s no better place to take it all in than The Wildflower Inn. Whether you’re chasing peak foliage, crisp mountain air, or a warm bowl of housemade butternut squash soup after a long ride, we’ve crafted the perfect 48-hour itinerary for leaf peepers looking to soak up every moment of autumn beauty.

DAY 1: ARRIVE + UNWIND

3:00 PM – Check-in at The Wildflower Inn
Welcome to your cozy fall escape. Take a deep breath—the air smells like pine, earth, and maybe a hint of maple. Once you’re settled in, step outside to take in the view from the Inn’s back porch. You’ll see rolling hills lit up in fiery golds, blazing reds, and brilliant oranges.

4:30 PM – Sunset Walk on Darling Hill
Stretch your legs with a stroll along Darling Hill Road. It’s one of the most scenic roads in Vermont and during fall, the views are like stepping into a postcard. Bring your camera—this is golden hour at its finest.

6:00 PM – Dinner at The Wildflower Restaurant
Get cozy with a craft beer, Vermont cider, or a warm cocktail. Our seasonal dinner menu features hearty fall favorites, like maple-glazed pork chops, apple and goat cheese salads, and homemade soups. Tip: be sure to save room for dessert—you don’t want to skip it.

8:00 PM – Stargazing Under the NEK Sky
The stars here are unbelievable. Bring a blanket or grab a seat by the fire pit. With no city lights, the night sky glows with constellations and—if you’re lucky—maybe even a glimpse of the Milky Way.

DAY 2: PEAK FALL ADVENTURE

7:30 AM – Sunrise + Coffee
Wake up early and take your coffee out to the meadow. Watching the sky turn pink and orange over the foliage-covered hills is one of the most peaceful ways to start your day.

8:00 AM – Farmhouse Breakfast
Fuel up with a hot breakfast featuring local eggs, crispy home fries, seasonal fruit, and fresh baked goods. You’ll need it for what’s next...

9:30 AM – Ride Kingdom Trails
Jump on your bike (or rent one on-site at Rifugio!) and hit the trails right from the property. Fall riding is phenomenal—cool temps, tacky trails, and leaves crunching beneath your tires. Not a hardcore rider? Try a scenic cruise on the beginner-friendly PAW Trail.

12:30 PM – Lunch in East Burke
Head to town for a casual lunch at a local café or sandwich shop. Grab a maple latte or pastry at Auntie Dee Dee's while you’re there—fall calories don’t count.

2:00 PM – Scenic Drive or Disc Golf
Want to see more foliage? Take a short drive around Lake Willoughby or cruise along Route 114. Want to stay close? Hit the Wildflower Disc Golf Course and play a few holes with a view.

5:30 PM – Wind Down + Wildflower Views
Grab a glass of wine or cider and head to our Adirondack chairs to watch the sunset again (yes, it’s worth repeating). The view never gets old.

6:30 PM – Second Night, New Flavor
Try something new on night two at the Pub or venture into town for dinner. We’re happy to recommend nearby gems serving Vermont-raised meats, harvest veggies, and fresh-from-the-farm fare.

8:30 PM – Bonfire & S’mores
End your perfect fall day by the fire with a s’mores kit from the front desk. Swap stories with fellow guests or just listen to the wind rustling the trees.

DAY 3: FAREWELL (FOR NOW)

7:30 AM – Final Walk + Photo Ops
Take one last early morning walk and snap a few photos. You’ll want to remember this view long after the leaves have fallen.

9:00 AM – Breakfast & Goodbyes
Enjoy another farm-fresh breakfast before checking out and heading back to reality—with a camera full of color, lungs full of fresh air, and heart full of fall.

🍂 Ready to plan your leaf peeping getaway? Book your stay at The Wildflower Inn and experience fall in the Northeast Kingdom like never before.
