DISC GOLF

THE PERFECT BLEND OF FUN, FITNESS, AND FRESH AIR

If you’ve ever wanted to combine a walk in the woods, a little friendly competition, and just the right amount of skill and strategy, then disc golf might be your new favorite pastime. It’s one of the fastest-growing outdoor sports in the country—and for good reason. It’s easy to learn, affordable to play, and a great way to get outside with friends and family.

What Is Disc Golf, Anyway?

Think of disc golf as traditional golf’s laid-back cousin. Instead of clubs and balls, players use specially designed flying discs (think frisbees, but made for accuracy and distance). Instead of holes, there are elevated metal baskets, often tucked between trees, across meadows, or near scenic viewpoints. The goal? Complete each hole in as few throws as possible.

Courses typically include 9 or 18 “holes,” and they can be found in parks, forests, and open fields across the country. Some are challenging, with wooded fairways and tricky elevation changes. Others are beginner-friendly, perfect for kids or casual players looking to enjoy the outdoors.

Why People Love It

1. It’s Accessible to Everyone
Disc golf doesn’t require a lot of gear or experience to get started. All you need is a disc (or borrow one from a friend), and you’re off! It’s a sport that spans generations—grandparents, teens, kids, and seasoned athletes can all play together on the same course.

2. It’s Affordable
Most courses are located in public parks and are completely free to play. Discs range from $10 to $20, and a starter set with a driver, mid-range, and putter is more than enough for a beginner.

3. It’s Good for Your Body and Mind
A casual round of disc golf can involve 1–3 miles of walking, light stretching, and plenty of fresh air. But it’s not just physical—it’s also a mental game. Players learn to visualize throws, judge distances, and problem-solve their way around trees and terrain.

4. It’s a Social (and Sometimes Competitive) Scene
Whether you're playing a casual round with friends or joining a local league or tournament, disc golf offers a welcoming community. The culture is generally inclusive and supportive, with an emphasis on fun and camaraderie.
